6th May 2015: Arab Excellence has organized the first conference in Stanford University about Inspiring Arab role models. This event included a roundtable with 3 prominent achievers in the USA: Dr. Hassanein, Dr. Abraham, Omar Tawakkol (see below).

First conference in Stanford University on Inspiring Arab entrepreneurs based in the US

Involving Techwadi: the first network of Arab American Tech executives, entrepreneurs and VC based in the US

Guest speakers:  

  • Dr Ossama Hassanein: Successful entrepreneur, mentor and venture capitalist, CEO of Techwadi
  • Abraham: Co-founder and CEO of comScore (valuated at $2bn on the Nasdaq)
  • Omar Tawakol: CEO of BluKai (sold to Oracle for $500 m)

 

Objectives

  • Inspire the next generation of tech entrepreneurs based in the US and in the Arab countries with successful Arab entrepreneurs they can relate to
  • Give them self confidence and the motivation to get started, trigger passion
  • Provide them with concrete next steps and best practices from the best entrepreneurs
  • Connect these entrepreneurs with potential mentors and VCs during the networking dinner
  • Create a community of inspiring Arabs based in the West coast that are willing to help and mentor the upcoming entrepreneurs from the Middle East and help scale
  • Honor the Arab entrepreneurs globally

 

Outcome:

  • More 100 young entrepreneurs, VC, mentors and Stanford students attended the conference to get inspired, learn from the best entrepreneurs and connect.

6th May 2015: Arab Excellence has organized the first conference in Stanford University about Inspiring Arab role models. This event included a roundtable with 3 prominent achievers in the USA: Dr. Hassanein, Dr. Abraham, Omar Tawakkol.

Dr Thoraya Boumehdi, professor at Stanford University and team member of Arab Excellence has opened the conference and presented Arab Excellence and each speaker independently.

Hamza Chraibi, President of Arab Excellence presented the missions and vision of Arab Excellence and shared the stories of two inspiring role models covered by the organization.

The first intervention was the one of Dr Hassanein, Successful Entrepreneur, mentor and venture capitalist and Chairman of TechWadi, the largest network of Arab American high-Tech executives in the Silicon Valley. He highlighted the importance of having a mentor to grow a successful company as well as the importance of working together with Arab community in the USA.

Followed by Dr Abraham, CEO and founder of ComScore, leading US company in digital marketing, valuated at over 2bn dollars at the NASDAQ. He shared his personal story and the story of his company, starting from picking up fruits in his hometown in Lebanon to heading a 2bn dollar company. He also emphasized the importance of failing and learning the lessons from these failures.

The last intervention was the one of Omar Tawakkol, CEO and founder of Blukai, world’s first complete enterprise for intelligent marketing. He shared 5 guiding principles to achieve excellence, such as having role models and always be confident enough to hire smarter people than oneself.

The roundtable was followed by a 40 minute Q&A with the audience that came from all over the Silicon Valley. An authentic Moroccan dinner was served at the end during the networking session with the speakers.
